In Graphics 1, we dive into the basics of design through Elements and Principles. Every project is carefully designed to focus on a specific aspect, helping students grasp the ins and outs of these essential concepts. Hands-on activities let participants explore how each element or principle influences visual communication. This not only boosts technical skills but also nurtures a strong artistic sense, getting students ready for a versatile and informed graphic design adventure.
The Objective was create a well made list of every Principle and Element of design. This was just the introduction project, there was not really any inspiration considering it was pretty straightforward. I liked searching for pictures to put into my slide. I did not like coming up with an explanation for each image. It served as an incredible starting point for me. The simplicity of the approach made it easy to grasp, breaking down the fundamental aspects of design. The positive outcome left me genuinely satisfied, and my confidence in handling various design elements soared. This initial experience set a strong foundation for the entire course, providing a sense of comfort and readiness for whatever challenges lay ahead. It was more than just an introduction; it acted as a reassuring gateway that made the subsequent tasks seem less overwhelming.
Olympic Symbol-Technical Illustration
The objective was to choose a sport and recreate the Olympic logo for that sport. This project was fun because I got to choose my favorite sport which is baseball. I like the fact that we were able to use an image as inspiration. There was nothing that I did not like about this project. It was so much fun, especially because I got to focus on my absolute favorite sport. Selecting this fantastic image as a reference added an extra layer of enjoyment to the entire experience. The best part? I ended up scoring a fantastic grade, and the project itself turned out exceptionally well. It's like the perfect finishing touch, leaving me incredibly pleased with how smoothly the entire process unfolded.
Olympic Symbol-Computer Illustration
The objective was basically take the last project and put it into illustrator. Once again I really like baseball so I liked this project. I liked the fact that it helped me gain a little more experience for using illustrator. At the time I was not good at using Illustrator so that was my dislike for the project. Similar to the previous project, I had a great time working on this one because it revolved around baseball, a sport I truly enjoy. Although I found more joy in drawing during the last project, initially, using Illustrator for this one didn't capture my interest as much. However, the surprising twist? As I've become more adept at using Illustrator, I've grown genuinely excited about the idea of revisiting this project. The learning curve has been significant, and it's completely shifted my perspective on the design process in Illustrator, opening up a whole new dimension for me.
Monogram
The objective was to take an object that represents you and put the letters of your initials or first name into the object. I like everything about electric guitars and playing guitar so this project was fun. I like the fact that we were able to choose any object we wanted. I didn't like fact that I was not good at Illustrator at the time so I did not do good. This project holds a unique place in my experiences—it's both one of my favorites and least favorites simultaneously. Back then, my proficiency with Illustrator was not at its peak. Looking back, if I had the chance to redo any project, this one would likely be at the top of the list. The task involved selecting an object that symbolized something significant, and while the challenge was daunting at the time, the opportunity to revisit it now, armed with improved Illustrator skills, seems like a promising and rewarding endeavor.
History Poster
Making this poster was like going on a cool journey through the history of photography. I really love Digital Media and photography, so this project was a chance to mix my passion for telling stories with cool pictures and learn about the awesome story of photography. Photography, to me, is more than just taking pictures – it's like an art that shows the vibe of different times. My own experiences with photography made me super curious about how it has changed and made us see the world differently. What made it really fun was there were so many choices! I could dive into the cool moments of early photography or check out the fancy moves in the 20th century. Each time period and photographer had a different story that I wanted to show off in my poster. Doing this project made me understand more about photography's history, and I got better at making things. The poster isn't just a bunch of old facts; it's like a party for how cool storytelling with pictures is, mixing the past and now. Looking back, I feel not just smarter but also have a big respect for how each click of the camera changed things over time.
Maze
I aimed to create a maze that would captivate kids under 10, drawing on my love for Batman as a child. The goal was to make it engaging and imaginative for young minds. The project brought joy through creative freedom, but crafting the maze was challenging and required careful attention to detail. Despite the difficulties, the end result seamlessly combined my childhood Batman fascination with a fun and imaginative experience for today's kids.
Logo
I wanted to make a logo for a business, and since I love collecting baseball cards, I decided to create one for my own baseball card business. The cool part was I could pick any business idea I wanted. But coming up with the perfect logo was tough. I had to make sure it captured what my baseball card business is all about and looked good too. Even though it was a bit challenging, working on this project allowed me to express myself and grow creatively. In the end, I got a logo that shows my love for baseball cards in a cool way.
Low Poly
I wanted to turn my picture into a cool low-poly style using triangles, inspired by a photo of me at an Orioles game. The fun part was how easy it was to create this unique look with triangles, making my image stand out. The not-so-fun part was having to trace the background, which made things a bit tricky. Despite that challenge, working on this project was cool because it let me combine my love for digital art with a personal touch. In the end, turning my picture into a low-poly version gave it a special and cool vibe, making the effort totally worth it.
Digital Portrait Screen Prints
I wanted to get really good at screen printing and turn a special photo of me at a football game, throwing a cool hand sign during my time in the Marching Band, into an ink print. I loved the idea of choosing a meaningful photo and creating a Wall of Fame. The not-so-fun part was dealing with the detailed and time-consuming steps to actually print the picture. Even though it was a bit challenging, going through the whole process taught me a lot about screen printing. Seeing my chosen photo become an ink print for the Wall of Fame made all the hard work totally worth it.
Event Poster
The objective of this project was to come up with an imaginary event choosing one of your favorite band or artist and make a concert poster for that band or artist. I took inspiration from one of my favorite bands, which is Rush. I also took inspiration from my favorite album which is 2112. The thing I liked about this project was the amount of creativity I was able to show while using my favorite band. There was nothing I disliked about the project.
